Way
back in the halcyon days of rock, there came a trio of
'superheroes' known as the Groundhogs, riding the blues boom
into unchartered territory, they gained a reputation as one of
the most dynamic live acts around, and are influential and
inspirational to this day. The classic line-up of Tony McPhee,
Ken Pustelnik and Pete Cruickshank toured the world for 6 years
straight, including seminal shows with the Rolling Stones, John
Lee Hooker, John Mayall and Canned Heat, and at the legendary
1970 Isle of Wight festival along with Jimi Hendrix. In this
time they produced 4 renowned albums: 'Blues Obituary', 'Thank
Christ for the Bomb', 'Split' and 'Who Will Save the World'...
Now Ken Pustelnik brings you a new and exciting line-up -
Groundhogs, playing that classic material with verve and power,
and giving performances of energy and excitement that are as
fresh and relevant to the modern audience as the originals were
back in the day...
'John
Verity, the man and musician who is ‘blue to his soul’ and for
years has been one of the most consistent performers on the
blues rock circuit. Opening for Jimi Hendrix, Janis
Joplin amongst others in the USA and then with Argent, he also
spent time in the studio recording and guesting with Saxon, The
Zombies, Colin Blunstone and Ringo Starr and many more. John is
now experiencing a musical renaissance through recent live
appearances and album releases and will also be
celebrating The 50th Anniversary in 2020 of the very first
appearances of The John Verity Band in Florida back in 1970.
‘And while John Verity is still in mighty fine voice,
strong deliveries with a deceptively high upper range, it’s his
prowess with his Fret-King Corona ‘JV’ signature guitar that
truly does the talking. This is heard to maximum effect on
numbers such as the expressive ‘Hope for the best’ and the
weightier, pulsating blues rock of ‘Blues in Heaven’. Bang on
about Joe Bonamassa all you want but in the smaller but no less
rich arena of blues clubs, festivals and theatres then John
Verity, for tone and touch is your player of choice.
‘One
of the finest, most listenable guitarists and bluesmen I know;
John has a real rock solid voice that just seems to get better
with age.’
