For someone who's just 18 Chipmunk
has already achieved a lot - in 2008 he received a MOBO
award for Best Newcomer, an Urban Music Award for Best
Newcomer, and a nomination for Best Rapper at the
American BET Awards, not to mention having racked up
millions of plays across his MySpace and Youtube
channels - and all when he was just 17.
He's not new to the scene...at the
age of 15 Chip started producing and self-releasing
mixtapes, buying CDs in bulk and selling them to his
mates at school. For his final mixtape, League Of My
Own, he came together with Alwayz Recordings,
together they then went on to release the much talked
about single Chip Diddy Chip, reaching number 21
in the UK charts.
More recently he's been working and
touring with N-Dubz and featured on their album Uncle
B. He also put his MC talents to DJ Ironik's top 5
single Tiny Dancer.
Once his
A-level exams are out of the way in June expect to hear
a lot more from Chipmunk. Diamond Rings, will be
released on 6th July, followed by the album I
Am...Chipmunk in September.
Her debut release 'Who Do You
Think You Are?' Is being released through the highly
successful label ‘All Around the World’, who have
recently seen massive success with label mates N-Dubz
who sold over 500,000 Albums.
The single has
already been heavily rotated on BBC's 1xtra and
Radio 1 having been championed by DJ's Tim Westwood
and Pete Tong.
Debut Single: 'Who Do You
Think You Are?' Released 27th July.
Hailing from East London and at a young age, Mz
Bratt is already an inspirational figure to many in
the world of UK Urban/Dance music and TV.
Billed by many experts as 2009's one to watch, Mz
Bratt has emerged from the current UK Urban scene as
the lone female role model within a male dominated
arena.
Her exceptional talent struck renowned
award-winning urban producer Terror Danjah (Kano,
Sway, Chipmunk, Shola Ama) who took her under his
wing after hearing her at local MC battles and
seeing her huge Myspace following.
This was
soon followed the news that Mz Bratt had been
selected to be part of the T4 entertainment show
'Music-Cool', where she starred as the LEAD female-
at one point reducing guest judge Jamelia to tears
with her exceptional talent and vocal ability.
Following this Mz Bratt then embarked on a huge
US and European tour with Shoreditch cool guys 'The
Count and Sinden' which included shows at
Glastonbury and Bestival.
She has also
featured on remixes and records with artists
including Wiley, Tinchy Stryder, Taio Cruz, Sadie
Ama and Grammy nominated US Star Jazmine Sullivan.
Mz Bratt's musical taste is diverse and she
lists her influences ranging from Lauryn Hill,
Beyonce, Coldplay, Method Man, Nas, Lady GaGa, Bob
Marley and Michael Jackson.
Another key
influence was her father who was MC SCALLYWAG from
the late 80's Acid-House outfit 'Spiral Tribe'.
This early exposure to music of a liberating
nature has certainly contributed to the development
of Mz Bratt's own unique signature electro-fused
hip-hop sound.
As with most things
exciting and fresh in music, it is made by those who are
not studied and not tied by the expectation and demands
of current knowledge or trends. So The Kiara
Elles forge ahead, doing what they want, the
way they want to. The band have taken responsibility for
every creative aspect of the EP. The video to lead track
‘Odio’ is The Kiara Elles hyperactive
frontwoman, Chiara Lucchini’s own work.
The EP
itself literally has the band’s personal stamp on every
sleeve, each limited edition 7" vinyl has individually
home-made and hand stamped sleeves designed and created
by the band. The Kiara Elles have played a string of
shows with acts such as The Whip, The Chapman Family,
Shy Child, The Organ and Ipso Facto. While getting the
stamp of approval from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Huw
Stephens on Radio 1 and Chris Martin on NME Radio (all
while unsigned), the band’s integrity saw them turn down
numerous offers from labels that didn’t share their
vision or work ethic, until finding a kindred spirit in
Choque Hosein. A decade on from receiving Leeds’ first
Mercury Music nomination with his band Black Star Liner,
Choque now runs Leeds hottest new label Vandal. As well
as head of the bands label, Choque also produced the EP
(as he has previously for bands such as The Brute Chorus
and Black Wire) and is scheduled to do the same with the
bands upcoming debut LP in spring 2010.
Charismatic, self-determined
and committed. Clement Marfo
is quickly proving to be one of the hottest new talents
to hit the British scene. Clement has been established
to be experimental with his unique style, permitting him
to have an unconventional means of deliverance.
Born and raised in South London,
England to Ghanaian (West African) parents. Clement has
blossomed into a determined recording artist with
engaging lyrics, illustrating conscious song writing
skills that reflect a mature outlook on reality.
At present, Clement Marfo is working closely with a
seven piece band ‘The
Frontline’ in
which this collaboration has significantly added a whole
new dimension to his music. Together Clement Marfo & The
Frontline exhibit a fusion of musical styles, with the
fundamental style of Hip Hop, being incorporated with
supporting styles of Rock, Indie, Soul, and Funk. This
unique blend of upbeat, colourful music has created a
refreshing mix that appeals to the European and
international market.
Spewed forth from the
mighty lava of Grimsby, Light Scars
were formed in late 2007 by El Field, Sam Wood and
Martin Lyons. Creating music through the wisdom of
divine intervention, they worked to generate the most
unique sound they could. The result was a 8 track E.P
that was brought out in early 2009 (available on Spotify
and iTunes). Their recent adventures brought them to
encounter James Walker, who has recently become their
second guitarist, adding the raw might of God himself to
Light Scars' unearthly melodies. The foursome now quest
as far as they can get, in an attempt to spread their
music and inspire the masses.
